What are we doing with our most valuable resource?

clockwork-21254_1280There are lots of rare resources. Gold, silver, diamonds, and rubies are all very rare and valuable, but there is a resource that surpasses each of these in value by far. So what is this ultra rare, ultra valuable resource, and what are we doing with it?

I will answer the second question first. We are wasting it. For millennia, we have been wasting it abhorrently. For all of time, one could say, we have been wasting it.

So what is this mystery substance?  The answer is surprisingly obvious. It is time. Time is infinitely rare, and consequently, infinitely valuable. Time passed is forever gone, and time to come is not guaranteed in any way. The only time that we have is the infinitesimally small amount which we call the present.

Time is both infinitely rare and infinitely valuable, so you would think that people would use it as effectively as possible. Of course, they don’t. However, the phenomenal value of time begs us to examine the ways in which we spend it.

Here I must confess that I waste vast amounts of time. I spend countless hours reading memes, browsing through Facebook and Twitter posts, watching TV, and mindlessly wandering around. I also spend many hours stressing, worrying, procrastinating, and over thinking. This is such a shame.

Now, as the year comes to an end, I am starting to think about the things which I could have accomplished this year, but that I didn’t. I am recognizing the quantities of time wasted, and I am resolving to spend my time better in the coming year. Next year, hopefully, will be different. Hopefully, I will be able to use my time more wisely.

Since I am still young, I don’t have a lot of super important things to do in life, but I do have one specific task which stands out. I am supposed to be using this season of my life to prepare me for what I will do with the rest of my life. I am tasked with building the foundation for my future.

In the coming year, I hope to lay many more layers of bricks in the foundation of my life. I plan to develop good habits, to cement my values and principles, and to study wholeheartedly. Next year, I plan to use my time more wisely, and in doing so, I hope that I may become a more useful vessel for Christ’s purposes.

Well said Joseph. I’ve been thinking about this myself recently. Phew. Lots to think about.
